The Carmel of the Sacred Heart
The Carmel of the Sacred Heart at Kankanady, Mangalore, is a Teresian contemplative Carmel founded in 1870. Its life is centred on prayer and contemplation, offered for the Church, priests, the conversion of sinners and the needs of people.
A Life Set Apart for Prayer
Within the cloister, the Sisters seek to live a life of prayer, contemplation, silence, penance and work. Their contemplative life is understood as a service to the Church and to the world.

The Story of Carmel in Mangalore
The foundation was planned through the initiative of Mgr. Marie Ephrem and the Carmel of Pau in France. The pioneering Sisters reached Mangalore in November 1870. The Kankanady foundation followed in the years that came after.
